Landfill Leachate and Municipal Wastewater Treatment

Stricter discharge limits, ageing treatment plants and leachate from landfills. FjordFilter helps municipalities and inter-municipal companies with tailored, membrane-free treatment solutions.

Challenges we solve for municipalities

Many municipalities face new requirements and ageing infrastructure at the same time. Typical challenges we help with:

  • Leachate from active and closed landfills with high levels of COD, nitrogen, metals and PFAS
  • Phosphorus and suspended solids (SS) that must be reduced to comply with the discharge permit
  • Stormwater and tunnel water containing particles, oil and heavy metals
  • The need for robust plants with low maintenance and low operating costs

Our solution

We combine electrocoagulation (EC), electro-oxidation (EO) and activated carbon polishing in a plant tailored to your water quality and requirements. The process is membrane-free and almost chemical-free, and capacity scales from 100 litres per hour upwards.

1. Analysis and testing

We map the composition of your water and the requirements in your discharge permit, and verify treatment performance with tests on your own water.

2. Tailored plant

We design a treatment plant based on Best Available Techniques (BAT) and local conditions.

3. Delivery and follow-up

We deliver, commission and follow up the plant to ensure stable operation and documented compliance.

Results from our tests

With electrocoagulation, we have measured the following reductions in different types of wastewater:

99 %

Phosphorus

98 %

Suspended solids (SS)

98 %

Heavy metals

99 %

PFAS

Up-to values. Results vary with water composition, so we always test on your own water before recommending a solution.

Frequently asked questions

Can you treat leachate from closed landfills?

Yes. We adapt the treatment steps to the composition of the leachate (typically COD, nitrogen, metals and PFAS) and verify performance with tests before proposing a plant.

Can the plant be expanded later?

Yes. Our solutions are scalable and can be adapted when water volumes or requirements change.

Do you help with the discharge permit?

Yes. We provide documentation of treatment performance and support you in the dialogue about permit requirements.
