Water Treatment for Aquaculture and Hatcheries
Treatment of wastewater from hatcheries, RAS facilities and fish processing, with membrane-free technology that removes particles, phosphorus and organic matter.
Challenges in aquaculture
Growing land-based production and stricter discharge permits make water treatment a key factor. Typical challenges we help with:
- Effluent from hatcheries and RAS facilities containing particles, feed residues and phosphorus
- Process water from slaughtering and processing with high organic load (COD), fat and protein
- Nitrogen compounds that must be reduced before discharge
- Requirements for documented treatment in the discharge permit
Our solution
Electrocoagulation (EC) binds particles, phosphorus and organic matter so they can be easily separated. Electro-oxidation (EO) breaks down nitrogen compounds and persistent organic matter. The process is membrane-free and almost chemical-free, and capacity scales from 100 litres per hour upwards.
1. Analysis and testing
We map each water stream (from hatchery to slaughterhouse) and test treatment performance on your own water.
2. Tailored plant
We design a treatment plant adapted to your production, water volumes and discharge permit requirements.
3. Delivery and follow-up
We deliver, commission and follow up the plant for stable operation throughout the production cycle.
Results from our tests
With electrocoagulation, we have measured the following reductions in different types of wastewater:
99 %
Phosphorus
98 %
Suspended solids (SS)
79 %
COD (organic matter)
98 %
Heavy metals
Up-to values. Results vary with water composition, so we always test on your own water before recommending a solution.

Frequently asked questions
Is the solution suitable for both hatcheries and slaughterhouses?
Yes. We adapt the treatment steps to each water stream, from particle-rich hatchery effluent to fatty process water from slaughtering and processing.
What happens to the sludge?
Particles and contaminants are separated as sludge. The process produces less sludge than traditional chemical precipitation, which simplifies handling.
Can treated water be reused?
In many cases yes, depending on water quality and requirements. We assess this together with you.
